Patrick Kane As A First Team All Star
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010In the last couple days I have discussed the NHL awards voting. I have written posts on the Hart Trophy and the Selke trophy. There is one more voting result I would like to comment on and that is the First Team All Star right wing. Patrick Kane of Chicago was given this award. From the voting results and looking at point totals, there were effectively four people in this race. They are Martin St Louis, Marian Gaborik, Dany Heatley and the winner Patrick Kane. No one else appeared on more than five ballots.
Devils Re-Sign Clarkson
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010from Mark Everson of the NY Post,
Averting possible arbitration or, perhaps, a trade, the Devils have signed RW David Clarkson to a three-year contract, The Post has learned.
Clarkson, 26, is believed to have agreed to salaries of $2 million, $3 million and $3 million in his new contract
Clarkson made $875G last season, a campaign ruined by a broken leg suffered from a Zdeno Chara slapshot Nov. 27. He missed 13 games before returning too soon, and after playing two games, went back on the shelf for 23 more. Clarkson was tied for the second-most goals on the team when he blocked Chara’s shot. He finished 11-13-24 in 46 games.
Mike Van Ryn Decides Not To Play Next Season
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010via MapleLeafs.com,
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that defenceman Mike Van Ryn has elected not to play in the 2010-11 hockey season.
Van Ryn, 31, has been rehabilitating his left knee after undergoing an osteotomy (knee re-alignment) on October 22, 2009. He did not appear in a game this past season due to the injury. The native of London, Ontario joined the Leafs in a trade with the Florida Panthers on September 2, 2008.
How About Tanguay Back In Calgary?
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010from Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun at Slam/Canoe,
Flames fans can dream all they want about the return of Marc Savard to answer the club’s playmaking needs.
However, the odds are infinitely better another former Flame will be recalled on Canada Day: Alex Tanguay.
While some may be sickened at the thought the former castoff may return as the team’s biggest off-season acquisition, the man whose stock has made like BP’s ever since he asked for a trade out of Cowtown is likely the best fit out there for the cash-strapped club.
Yesterday Was A Day Of Changes
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,
It was the day of the broom in the NHL on Tuesday, with the Edmonton Oilers leading the way and the Montreal Canadiens finishing things up by ending the Sergei Kostitsyn era.
In between, Dallas Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk turned a lot of heads when he confirmed what was suspected for some time – the team’s star for the last 20 years, Mike Modano, will not be offered a new contract.
Demolition Day is a more accurate term for what happened in Edmonton, as Oilers GM Steve Tambellini put three of his regulars on waivers, including veteran captain Ethan Moreau, in order to buy out their contracts. If Moreau, Patrick O’Sullivan and Robert Nilsson clear waivers Wednesday they will be bought out as part of Tambellini’s sweeping remake of the team which has seen everyone from 30-year equipment manager Lyle Kulchinsky to head coach Pat Quinn pushed out the dressing room door.
