Ducks, Ryan Will Talk This Week
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,
Don Meehan, one of Ryan’s Newport Sports Management agents, told the Register in an e-mail that there are plans to meet with Ducks management as the club’s reigning top goal scorer remains unsigned with training camp less than three weeks away.
Previous discussions have been fruitless until now with the Ducks trying to get their 23-year-old sniper signed to a long-term deal and Ryan hesitant to commit to anything more than three years. Ryan, whose 35 goals ranked 10th in the NHL last season, turned down a five-year, $25-million offer at the end of June.
Perhaps the specter of camp looming around the corner is getting some other notable restricted free agents to come to terms with their teams.
Rangers Updates
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010Good afternoon folks. It appears that Jim Cerny, the New York Rangers beat writer for the team’s web site, is back from vacation and is poting regularly both on his twitter account and the team web site.
Since I cannot attend workouts/practices or anything like that, Mr. Cerny is a great Rangers’ scribe to keep tabs on.

Pass Or Fail
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010from Darren Dreger of TSN,
The outcome of the New Jersey Devils latest attempt to sign star forward Ilya Kovalchuk has many NHL executives anxiously waiting.
Without knowing the specifics of the contract rival managers are left to consider the speculation that reports Kovalchuk’s latest contract offer to be in the range of 15 years and $100 million.
One NHL general manager doesn’t believe for a second the league will allow this one to pass either, stating Lou Lamoriello, the Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk are simply trying to “disguise circumvention,” adding, “trying to hide the crime, makes this even worse.”

Report: Sabres offered Kennedy one-way contract
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010While some Sabres fans are still fuming about the actions of management during the Tim Kennedy arbitration saga, an interesting tidbit came out of Buffalo yesterday from beat reporter Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550.
Hamilton, a long time respected Buffalo media veteran, revealed that he knew from a source with the team that near the end of the arbitration process the Kennedy camp rejected a final offer from the Sabres of $800k on a one-way contract.
It had been speculated for weeks that Kennedy not being offered a one-way deal was the major obstacle between the two parties during negotiations.
The comment by Hamilton was made during one of his daily appearances on the station and following the announcement that the South Buffalo native had agreed to a one-year, $550k deal with the New York Rangers.
The Sabres open their home schedule against the Rangers at HSBC Arena on October 9.
